Treasure Tim heads out with the Minelab CTX 3030

Finally got to swing a detector !!!!!

A fire had recently burnt an old site which was mined in 1860’s and 70’s which made it accessible to my coil after so many years of thick growth.

Managed alot of brass objects, a horse head locket and this cricket buckle, which is a common pattern which i’d seen before a few times.

Very happy with its condition all the same whilst in the burnt area , I noticed 4 other hut sites which I didnt have time to detect, but will hopefully return to soon before the regrowth.

Treasure Tim finds relics

It’s never too late to start Metal Detecting even at 99yrs.

It’s never too late to begin metal detecting. Recently a 99 year old man who had lost most of his hearing came into our BrisbaneGold store with his daughter and son in law to buy a  Minelab X-TERRA 305 metal detector. His age and hearing loss weren’t going to stop him from giving metal detecting a go.

We wish him the best of luck in his hunt for treasure.

Crystalline Gold

Some interesting finds came through the shop in the last week or so, a gentleman brought in this small collection of crystalline gold.

Crystalline gold is rarer form of gold and gets its name from  the crystal like formation.

Treasure Tim unearths a 4 Gram Gold Nugget

Watch below as Treasure Tim unearths a 4 gram gold nugget using a Minelab GPX 5000 Metal Detector.

The nugget was found at about a depth of 6 inches using a Minelab 8″ Monoloop Coil.

Great Find for 15 Minutes Detecting!

Treasure Tim Discovers a Murray & Christie Token

I was eyeing off a very small isolated patch of early reef workings outside Bendigo and each time I drove past had wondered whether they had been detected before, so one day I decided to walk over to the lone mine shafts and detect around them for coins/relics.

I could see a lot of nails and iron rubbish on the surface so I grabbed the minelab E-trac and began detecting around them. Not finding much at all other than iron junk I was about to leave when I got a very strong, high pitch non-ferrous signal. I immediately recognised the signal as potentially a large copper coin and began digging. Within only about 2-3 inches I uncovered the Murray & Christie Castlemaine merchant  penny token in good condition.

Murray & Christie Token

I recently found several photos of the original Murray & Christie building in Mostyn Street Castlemaine.

Murray & Christie were ironmongers, and merchants in china and glass ware. I have located several pictures of the store from between 1861 and 1865 and it appears they added a second story to their store in about 1862.

I will update this post shortly with an image of the orginal building.

First Nuggets

Here is a great success story for one of our BendigoGold customers who had hired a Minelab GPX 5000 Metal Detector.

Hi guys just thought you might be interested to know that when I hired the Minelab GPX 5000 the other weekend my son and I found our first nuggets.

Third time hiring and looking and was worth it. Nugget weighs in at 4.5 grams so we were pretty happy.

Thanks for your help!

Nice 31.7grams Found

We’ve had another customer call into the BendigoGold store to show us his finds from the weekend.

He found a total of 13 pieces weighing a totoal of 31.7 grams using a Minelab GPX 5000 metal detector and a Coiltek 14″ x 9″ Blitz coil.

Great finds for a total of 10-12 hours detecting over a weekend.

Champagne

A customer came into our Miners Den Sydney store and presented us with a bottle of champagne.

Naturally we were impressed. It looked quite old and we imagined it was a rare vintage until she confessed that she found it with her Minelab X-TERRA 305.

It wasn’t her first find nor will it be her last but it’s certainly up there with the most unusual and once chilled, it was perfect.

Thanks Amanda. We really admire your detecting skills.

10 grams of Gold in 2 Hours!

Here is a great little story from Cory at our BrisbaneGold Store:

My mate Bruce heard a tale of a 4oz piece coming from an area on Glendon’s property many years ago.

I would think many many detectors have been over it since but the area has no detector holes and was full of screaming targets.

Bruce dug a number of shotgun pellets and bits of wire and then out popped a nugget of 1.2 grams. And so it went for the next 2 hrs for a total of 10 grams with the biggest being just over 5 grams.

There are still many big targets left to uncover and he has invited me to help him work the area on the weekend.

He was using a Minelab GPX 5000 metal detector with a Rooster Booster and a 14″ Coiltek mono coil.

Lovely 56 grams of Gold Found!

The lovely collection of nuggets below was in the Central Victorian area over six days.

Using a Minelab GPX-4500 and 11″ mono coil the lucky prospector found all the pieces within the same area.

The total found was approximately 56 grams.

What a great few days out!
